Market trends and strategic insights across Yangon’s commercial, hospitality, and residential sectors for H1 2022
Summary & Recommendations
Sluggish Yet Improving Market Activity
The first half of 2022 had property activities moving with better-than-expected results. Although the market remains sluggish, subtle improvements have been especially noticeable across the commercial sectors. Gradually unfolding from the impact brought about by the COVID crisis, business confidence is starting to show signs of resurgence. Mobility especially in the office and retail markets have in fact greatly improved compared to year-ago levels.
With Myanmar opening-up to international arrivals, some foreign business have also returned, artificially sating demand for the hotel and serviced apartment markets. Big-ticket investment decisions may however remain shelved in the near term, but investors are hopeful towards further stability. We continually recommend stakeholders to conduct thorough market due diligences; and advise investors to seek opportunities in various or new assets classes while adopting a rather long-term optimistic, yet cautious views.
